Spring Newsletter

Welcome to Spring! Hopefully we will see Hampton Court Castle and Gardens bathed in sunshine when we visit on Monday May 12th, but I couldn’t resist this beautiful photograph!

There are a few important events coming up: a Day of Special Interest about Pre-Raphaelite Painting on March 27th and our AGM on April 10th followed by a lecture on The Life and Work of Frank Lloyd Wright. If you wish to bring a guest to any of our excellent lectures, please remember to book in with Jackie Daly before the day of the lecture. You may have noticed our hall is very full these days! This autumn there is a change of plan. We are organizing a group visit to Rodmarton Manor, which follows on rather nicely from this month’s lecture on the Arts and Crafts movement.

Thank you to all members who filled in our impromptu questionnaire last month. We now have a team of volunteers who are willing to help with chauffeuring, lunching and/or hosting our lecturer overnight.  We have also expanded our Projection team. If any of you missed this opportunity and would like to join the team, please talk to a committee member.

This year’s “Arts Volunteering Project” is an after school Art Club at Sherborne Primary School. It has got off to a roaring start already, proving even more popular than the football club! Over 40 children signed up for the first session, and there was paint everywhere! The theme is the River Windrush, and a team of local artists led by Jo Neil are helping with this project. We are invited to an exhibition at Windrush Church to see some of the work, as advertised in the poster below.  Our financial contribution is much appreciated.
